MICHAEL POWELL & EMERIC PRESSBURGER - BRITAIN’S GREATEST FILM-MAKING TEAM

Brash, outgoing English director Michael Powell and quiet Hungarian scriptwriter Emeric Pressburger came together in 1943 to form The Archers company. Together, they produced some of the greatest British films ever made, including A MATTER OF LIFE AND DEATH with David Niven, I KNOW WHERE I’M GOING with Wendy Hiller, the ballet classic THE RED SHOES, and many others.  In this illustrated talk, William Reiss (MA Film & TV Studies) will explore how these two very contrasted men worked so well together, producing a string of classic films that were visually stunning, wittily eccentric, and embedded with a deep love of the British landscape and traditions.
