AIMS: To learn and converse in French in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere.

ACTIVITIES: Conversation, reading and translation of articles from the Rendez- vous magazine. We also make use of the accompanying C.D.

CHARGES: None at present.

A Tribute to Jenny Hine

Jenny was a warm and wise woman who will be greatly missed. Amongst many things that she did for the U3A, she formed a French Conversation Group, nearly ten years ago. We were in that group from the start and our French improved greatly with her attentive but kindly encouragement and support. Members of the group changed over the years and Jenny was welcoming to all. We used a topical magazine for French learners and this brought us closer to events, places and opinions in France. She also felt that learning by heart was a valuable method of developing language and memory skills. Perhaps, her greatest achievement was to get members of the group to learn and repeat, perfectly, the classic poem ‘La Cigale et La Fourmi’ by Jean de La Fontaine, a success that members, who still attend, recall with great affection.

It was a privilege to know Jenny and we will continue to think of her warmly.
