SESSIONS: We have separate sessions for electric guitar and acoustic guitar at separate venues on separate days as shown above.

ACTIVITIES: Interested in playing electric or acoustic guitar with a mixed ability, cheerful and supportive group? We meet twice a month for an acoustic session, based on singing and accompanying a range of classic pop, blues and Americana from the last 50 years. Recent material includes Horse with no name, Blowin’ in the wind, Make me smile, Stuck in the middle with you. And again for an electric session of noisier rocking blues, rock’n’roll and Americana but this time with electric guitars, amps, vocal pa, and a drum machine, called Ginger, obviously. Recent material includes Smokestack Lightning, Highway 61, Blue Jean Blues, Hog For You Baby, Tush…

It would be an advantage to be at least a basic player and to have the relevant acoustic or electric guitar for the session. While we are a supportive and mixed ability group, the emphasis is on playing not teaching but we will offer advice on some theory and techniques where useful.

WHAT YOU NEED: Please bring a guitar; acoustic or electric (latter plus amplifier).

CHARGES: £2 per session, per member which must be paid in cash on the night.

The Blyth River Blues Band

This great band formed out of the Halesworth u3a guitar group, including the chair of the Halesworth Museum Trustees and local historian Dave Wollweber,  almost exactly a year ago. Immediately popular they have since played all over East Suffolk and been described as “Suffolk’s Finest Rockin’ Blues Band.”

The Blyth River Blues Band is a real success for the creative opportunities of Halesworth u3a so please support them at the following local venues:
